What is SLU-PP-332?
SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic agonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERRs), with the highest potency at ERRα. ERRs are orphan nuclear receptors that play a role in skeletal-muscle exercise capacity, and SLU-PP-332 is studied as a so-called “exercise mimetic” research compound (Billon et al., 2023).
What the research examined
In a skeletal-muscle cell line, SLU-PP-332 increased mitochondrial function and cellular respiration. In mice, it increased oxidative (type IIa) muscle fibers and enhanced exercise endurance, and it induced an ERRα-specific acute aerobic-exercise gene program; ERRα activation was shown to be necessary for the endurance effect (Billon et al., 2023).
The limits of the current evidence
- The evidence is from cell and mouse studies; SLU-PP-332 is a research compound, not an approved medicine, and human data are lacking.
- This material is for laboratory research use only.
