What is SNAP-8?
SNAP-8, or acetyl octapeptide-3, is a synthetic peptide used in cosmetic science and studied for its effects on the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles when applied topically (Avcil et al., 2019).
What the research examined
In a 12-week monocentric clinical study, hyaluronic-acid microneedle patches loaded with a blend of bioactive peptides — including acetyl octapeptide-3 — were applied around the eye area and forearm of subjects with aged skin. The product was well tolerated and instrumental measurements showed a noticeable reduction in fine lines/wrinkles (~25.8%) along with improvements in skin hydration, density, and thickness. Because the formulation combined several ingredients, the effects reflect the blend rather than SNAP-8 alone (Avcil et al., 2019).
How it is thought to work
SNAP-8 is studied in the context of peptides that may influence the appearance of expression lines — a topical, cosmetic-science research area (Avcil et al., 2019).
The limits of the current evidence
- The cited evidence is from a combination cosmetic formulation, not SNAP-8 in isolation, and pertains to skin appearance rather than any medical outcome.
